Community Network awared Social Enterprise Mark

First Social Enterprise Mark awarded to London-based organisation

London gets its first Social Enterprise Mark

Community Network is blazing the trail for the Social Enterprise Mark in London. They were proud to receive their award recently at Footsey ’09 – the annual social economy trade fair in Doncaster.

As the very first organisation to be awarded the Mark in London, Chief Executive Pat Fitzsimons stated: "We are delighted to have been awarded the Social Enterprise Mark. It will clearly distinguish us from purely commercial enterprises and be a great asset in our efforts to attract new customers. This in turn will enable us to support more groups tackling social exclusion and isolation.”

Community Network was set up to tackle loneliness and isolation among vulnerable members of the community through befriending teleconference groups. It is a pioneer of encouraging social interaction through the use of telephone conferencing, enabling those who are marginalised from mainstream society, either due to old age, illness, disability or geography, to socialise with other people and re-connect with their communities.

The Social Enterprise Mark is an instantly recognisable label to identify social enterprises; it tells customers that by supporting a social enterprise they are helping to create benefits for people and the planet, rather than generating profits for owners or shareholders.

Community Network join other visionary social enterprises using the Mark in the UK, including the Eden Project, the Wise Group, Emmaus, Hill Holt Wood, Sunlight Enterprises and the Co-operative Group.
